Making a hit - as an art piece: a performance by Fabienne Audéoud Fabienne Audéoud is an artist and a musician with an a-typical background. Until now it was more about show- that business… you might have seen her being shot in a gallery, or having « 20 women play the drums topless » (with fellow artist John Russell), de-learning to play the piano, or singing a note for 40 minutes… Before moving from London to Paris, Fabienne Audéoud traveled several times to Senegal where she was deeply mooved by people’s approach to music. « What I heard and saw there was a music played for and with the audience. Here I had the feeling music had become its size. It was always about how many people listen, how many people like , who many people buy… I thought I’d play a sort of Marcel(le) Duchamp trick around this phenomenon. It won’t be an object, like an urinal that I’ll try and have in a museum but this « large audience thing ». I would make a hit song – as an art piece. » Sisters might be « the hit », but there’s also the album « read my lips » : Fabienne audéoud is currently working with musicians such as drummer Hamid Drake (who played with Herbie Handcok, William Parker, Don Cherry, Archie Shepp, Pharoah Sanders amongst many others) and bass player Sil Matadin (ex Urban Dance Squad) on a longer version of « Sisters ».
